Who am I?

Hello, I’m Joppe, or better: Llop. Since my Dutch name causes a lot of trouble (Jope!), I like to introduce myself to Spanish people as Llop. Hence the name Llop el Historiador, inspired by one of the most famous figures in Spanish history: El Cid Campeador.

History is my passion. I’ve been telling stories for many years now, first in the Netherlands and since 2022 in Spain. I moved to Valencia with my Spanish wife to get to know better her beautiful country. Now that I’m an official guide for the Valencian Community, it’s time to share my knowledge of Spain with you.

I´m specialized in the 20th century, so my tours usually focus on that period of history, but I also offer tours in cities with a longer history. Architecture forms an important part of my tours: through the buildings, I tell the stories of the growth of the cities and the people who lived and continue to live in them.

Although I’ve been living in Valencia for a while now, my perspective is still that of a foreigner, which is why there are many things I see with a more special interest or with a different viewpoint than the Spanish people. For example, I ask myself questions like: Why do so many people live in apartments? How did people experience the great migration from the countryside to the city?
